Mongol rally-2009 – on roads of Turkmenistan
The participants of the London-Ulan Bator Mongol rally-2009 that started on July 18 – the automobilists from 8 European countries, the United States, Canada and Australia arrived in the Turkmen capital. Split into groups drive 500 mini-cars – Nissan, Suzuki, Skoda, Hunday, Volkswagen and others they are heading for Mongolia to perform a philanthropic mission discovering the countries lying on the route and their rich culture. The organizers of the action are The adventurists – the London-headquartered special organisation.
The international expedition Mongol rally-2009 runs across the territories of 17 countries. The total length of the route is 16,000 kilometres. The cities in England, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan lie behind.

The Mongol rally-2009 participants include the representative of the better half of mankind are the people of different age united with the thirst for overland journeys that opens up a splendid opportunity to enjoy beautiful nature, learn about the history of different countries and peoples, meet people and experience adventures.
“The rally gives us what is unobtainable to tourists traveling by other transport,” 30-year-old Owen Cumber said. “We see it as a great advantage. We are very happy to visit Turkmenistan where we met many friendly people. Whatever part of your country we visited we felt special cordiality of hospitality everywhere. Thank you for heartfelt welcome in the Turkmen land!”
“We are gad to know about the decision of your President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to build the motordromes in the capital and each region and his initiative to hold the Silk Road-2009 Off-Road Rally,” 27-year-old Tom Mitchell from Scotland joined the conversation. “The Turkmen leader’s efforts will offer a powerful incentive to develop motor sport in Turkmenistan.”
The international expedition run through Mary and then crossed the Turkmen-Uzbek border. It will run along the roads of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan and finish in Ulan-Bator in late August.
